Hurricane Preparedness Week is May 15th - 21st

Most Floridians are aware that all it takes is one storm to change your life and community. While we may not experience the earthquakes that rock the West Coast or tornadoes that blow through the Midwest, if you have lived in Florida your whole life or at least part of it, you know hurricanes are nothing to sneeze at. Unlike these other storms, fortunately, hurricanes can be tracked fairly early and easily making it much easier to take safe evacuation measures. Most Floridians know the drill when it comes to preparing their heart and home for Atlantic Hurricane Season, which starts on June 1st. If, however, you are a new Florida resident or don’t know the best course of action in preparing for a hurricane, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) encourages you to take part in Hurricane Preparedness Week, May 15-21, 2016.

Hurricanes or tropical cyclones are among nature’s most powerful and destructive phenomena. Living in Florida, prone to tropical cyclones, you need to be prepared. Step 1: Evaluate Your Risk & Insurance

Laws and Codes You Need to Know When Buying a Backyard Pool

Spring is on the horizon and that means summer is not far behind. Two of the key requirements are that a barrier, any fence, dwelling wall or combination of two, must be at least four feet above the ground level of the swimming pool and that access gates to the swimming pool must be equipped to accommodate a locking device that sits on the pool side of the gate, out of a child’s reach.

A residential swimming pool barrier must meet all of the following requirements: The barrier must be at least four feet high, there may not be any gaps or openings, the barrier must be placed around the perimeter of the pool and it must be far enough away from the water’s edge such that someone cannot fall into the water if they manage to get through the barrier.

The above requirements were set with safety in mind. As a result, failure to equip a new swimming pool with the safety features mentioned previously is considered a second-degree misdemeanor according to Florida law.
