Choosing the Best Fence for Your Property

Do you want a new fence for your property but aren't sure where to begin? At Best Fence Company of Jacksonville, we can make it easy for you by bringing product samples to your home for you to evaluate first hand, before making any major decisions, along with providing a free estimate. We'll coordinate your fence installation with your builder, pool company and other contractors for your convenience. Your decorative pool fence is guaranteed to pass inspection and meet all code requirements.

The first step is always to determine WHY you want a fence. Is it just to improve your yard's appearance or are you looking for added security or privacy? Continue reading below for some tips and other things to consider when weighing your options.

Helpful Tips:

·         Before deciding on any fence, you will need to be aware of your HOA policies. Your neighborhood may not allow fences or at least certain types of fencing. Some HOA policies will specify exactly which materials, heights and other restrictions you will be expected to abide by.
·         Be considerate of your neighbors. They will usually appreciate a fence that blends in with their existing fence or does not restrict any pleasant views.
·         Do you have any small children or pets? If so, you may want to choose a fence design with a secure enough railing system to make it more difficult for anyone to get out or in and one that also includes a locking gate.
·         Know your budget. What are you realistically looking to accomplish for your money?
·         Consider environmental challenges. Do you live near the water or in a hot and humid climate? If so, you will want to choose a material other than wood, like vinyl or aluminum, which will not require regular maintenance.
·         DIY is NOT always best. Save yourself the headache and potential regrets by hiring a professional team for the installation.
·         Pool fences must meet certain national B.O.C.A. building code requirements. You can read more about that here.
·         Ask for a referral. If you love your friend's fence, why not ask them who built and installed it? Or have you driven through beautiful modern neighborhoods like Nocatee, Durbin Crossing, or Del Webb and admired any of their fence styles? Those neighborhoods and many others in the Northeast Florida area have all utilized Best Fence Company of Jacksonville.

This advice will certainly get you started on the right path towards completely your fencing project. Backyard Projects: DIY Garden Pots

From pots, garden boxes, seeds, fertilizer, and more...gardens can be expensive and confusing! Have you ever planted something then realized you didn’t label it or you have no idea what it is after it has sprouted? Well not anymore, here are 3 DIY Ideas that will help make your garden flourish with beauty and functionality! The best part is that they are inexpensive.
Project Number 1:  Chalkboard Painted Pot
Materials: Clay Pot, Chalkboard Paint, Stencils, Pencil, Painters Tape, and Chalk.
First make sure your clay pot is clean of any dirt, dust, soil, water, etc. then you are going to trace the stencil of your choice onto the pot with a pencil. The next step is to place painters tape on the outline of your trace to ensure you get perfect paint lines. After that is complete, paint away and label the pot as desired!
You will never lose track of your vegetables, herbs, or flowers again!
Project Number 2: Space Saver Veggies
This project is a great way to save space and to keep pesky critters out of your flowers or vegetables.
Materials: a shoe organizer that hangs and a hanger of your choice.
Simply take the shoe organizer you found at a bargain store, under your bed or a new one you bought and fill each opening where a shoe is supposed to go with soil and other wanted nutrients. Then simply plant the seed or plant and hang on the fence or a hanger stand of your choice. With this simple garden trick you never have to worry about your garden getting mowed over, dug up, or smashed by kids, lawn men, or even spouses!

Project Number 3: Upside Down Tomato Plant Hanger
This project can be a little tricky but it’s green, inexpensive, and your tomatoes will forever thank you!
Materials: Small Tomato Plant, Empty 2 liter plastic bottle, Duct Tape, Single Hole Punch, String, Soil, and Sharp Knife or Scissors.
An Upside Down Tomato Plant Hanger is easy, once the 2 liter bottle is empty. The first step is to cut the bottom off of the empty 2 liter. A good place to cut the bottle is right above where the 5 little nubs are at the bottom. Then you are going to tape the edges of the bottle you just cut so it is not sharp. After that, go ahead and punch holes through the tape and bottle with the single hole puncher. Remember to make as many holes as you need to hang it and to make the holes big enough to hold your string. Finally you are going to put the tomato plant through the bottle. The easiest way to do this is to start from the bottom of the bottle and send the plant through the lid of the bottle. Last, add soil and hang where the plant can get the desired sunlight.

What Fence Is Right For You?

They may be cute, cuddly, and fluffy but are rabbits and other critters destroying your hard work? Here are a few tricks that may help keep these critters out of your garden. Placing an inflatable snake around your garden can keep the rabbits from even thinking about getting close to it. The trick is to make the snake look real and move it around the garden often. Another strategy would be adding coffee grounds to your garden.

Coffee grounds add nutrients to soil and it deters pests such as picky deer, slugs and even cats. The last quick trick up our sleeve is soap. Cut your fresh smelling soap up and put it along the outsides of your garden. The smell may help keep the squirrels from eating your precious fruits and veggies you have worked so hard to grow.

Do you just want your garden to stand out?  If so you should look into a garden fence. There are many types of Ornamental Aluminum and Vinyl Fence that are decorative and may keep those pesky critters at bay.

4 RAIL CANTERBURY PUPPY PICKET
The 4 Rail Canterbury Puppy is designed with class to help keep your puppies close, but it may also keep those puppies out of your garden. It is an Ornamental Aluminum Fence which is maintenance free, Florida tested, powder coated, and a durable fence that will look fantastic for many years.

 3 RAIL BELMONT
The 3 Rail Belmont fence is not designed for keeping critters in nor out but it will give that garden an extra something. Besides you worked so hard to get the garden going, wouldn’t you want to showcase it in something beautiful? The 3 Rail Belmont fence is also an aluminum fence that is designed to last for years with durability and style.

IMPERIAL 3 OPEN PICKET
This Vinyl fence will last for years as well. Since it is not wood it will not rot, chip, or split apart. Imperial 3 Open Picket will also withstand Florida’s scorching weather.

How to Preserve Your Vinyl Fence

One reason vinyl fencing is so popular is that they’re very low maintenance once installed. However, there are still simple steps you can take to ensure your vinyl fence maintains its appearance and efficiency for many years.

Clean the Fence Regularly The most efficient way to clean your vinyl fence will be to mix some non-abrasive house hold detergent with water and gently sponge away any dirt or grime that’s accumulated on the fence.

Regularly Inspect the Posts and Post Caps
Sometimes environmental factors like excess heat or cold can loosen posts and the stability of the fence. It’s important to walk the fence line and double check the condition of the posts.

If the fence is unstable in any areas, use a shovel to adjust the earth around the posts and back fill as necessary.

Repair Any Damage to the Fence Fence damage may occur by a falling tree or a heavy object. If any part of the fence is broken, it’s important to either repair it or call a professional to repair it. Fence Etiquette to Avoid Disputes with Neighbors

One of the best ways to be a good neighbor is to practice proper fence etiquette. When you follow local zoning regulations, make respectful choices, and maintain communication with your neighbors, you’ll be able to install a new fence and stay on amicable terms with them. As you plan your next fence project, keep the following tips in mind.

Zoning Regulations and HOA Rules
It’s important to check local regulations for setbacks, height, and additions restrictions. Keep in mind that there are usually other rules for corner lots. Look into your Home Owner Association (HOA) rules as well.
Property Lines
Before you put up a new fence, talk to your neighbors. Make sure that you know where the property lines are and let them know that you’ll be doing a little construction. Some people find it beneficial to put their fences one or two feet inside of the property lines to avoid disputes. The more proactive you are at communicating with your neighbors, the better.
Positioning
Keep in mind, it’s considered best practice to put the better side of a fence facing towards the neighbors. Put yourself in your their shoes and think how you would feel if you had to look at the ugly side of their brand new fence every day. You don’t want to be the kind of person who does this to the other neighborhood residents.
Maintenance
Every fence requires some level of maintenance. Some materials, such as wood, require more frequent cleaning and re-sealing and other materials, such as vinyl. Even when neighbors aren’t thrilled about your fence, they are less likely to complain if it’s attractive. If you need help on fence cleaning advice, check out our website.

5 Things to Know Before You Build a Fence

Know What Type of Fence You’re Looking For
Before you install a fence, its important to first ask yourself the purpose of the fence. Are you trying to add a decorative element to your home? Maybe you’re trying to create privacy for your family? Whatever your purpose, a fence can function in many ways so do your research and choose one that works for you!
Do Your Research Into Building Codes
Installing a fence is not as easy as buying the material and putting the labor in. Its crucial that you research your homeowners and neighborhood association codes. These regulate the rules for fence height, look and material. Its also important to outline your property line so the fence is properly installed on your actual property and not your neighbors.
Be Courteous of Your Neighbors
To avoid any confrontation down the road, it’s important to be open and up front with your neighbors about your plans to install a fence. If your neighbor decides to share the fence, make such agreements in writing and only after the property boundaries have been professionally determined.
Consider the Climate Factor
When deciding which fence to choose, factor in the climate aspect of where you live. In colder climates, anchors may be needed and a certain depth for posts should be secured in order to avoid cracking in a cold snap. In warmer climates, vinyl is your best material as wood is susceptible to water damage.
Hire Professionals
Professionals understand the intricacies of zoning, permits and fencing requirements that come with the job. While many companies can help you design a great looking fence that will be the envy of the entire neighborhood, only local companies know how much that six-foot fence is going to cost you, by way of a free estimate.
